Description

 New Hope-Solebury School District, New Hope, PA, is seeking applicants for the position of Groundskeeper.

 

This position is responsible for maintaining grounds, athletic fields equipment and vehicles.  This includes grass, shrubbery, flowerbeds and trees which are to be maintained through cutting, edging, trimming, pruning, planting, fertilizing and spraying.  It may also include painting or performing minor repairs on pavement, sidewalks, fences, walls and other exterior areas.  May operate and perform minor repairs on vehicles and equipment. May assist in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment.

 

Requires a high school education or technical schooling. Requires current, valid Driver's License. Practical on-the-job experience in grounds maintenance is essential.  Ability to get along with people and function as a team member.  Must be able to follow direction and work independently.

 

Job duties include, but are not limited to:  

  • Remove snow from sidewalks, courtyards, parking lots, using shovels, snow plows, and ice melting equipment.
  • Clean sidewalks, entrances, courtyards and private roads using brooms and power sweepers.
  • When required, assist in chemical cleaning and/or sandblasting of sidewalks or building surfaces to remove stains and graffiti.
  • Weed, prune, trim and generally maintain the gardens, shrubs and trees on the grounds of the facility.
  • Aerate, mow, fertilize and water lawns, and athletic fields as required.
  • Prepare all athletic fields for sporting events.
  • Assist in repairs of sidewalks, fences, signs, parking lots and private streets.
  • May be required to repair and maintain equipment during inclement weather.
  • Maintain, clean and service district owned vehicles.
  • Pick up debris on grounds.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or as assigned by the Director of Operations.

 

This position reports to the Director of Operations and must have knowledge of grounds keeping equipment and proper horticultural techniques and working knowledge of trucks, vans, cars and busses. Must be able to work primarily outdoors. Ability to understand and follow verbal instruction. Must be willing to respect and practice established safety requirements.
